The Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay Competition 2024, Dedicated to commemorating the legacy of the late Miss Jemila Abubakar, the pioneering program manager of the Asido Foundation, who left us after a brief illness in July 2020, is now open.
The competition is open to Nigerian undergraduates in tertiary institutions, which includes universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, and schools of nursing. Theme for the 4th edition of the competition which will focus on exploring critical mental health issues, is captioned: “Digital Mental Health Tools for Students.”

- 1st Place: ₦200,000
- 2nd Place: ₦150,000
- 3rd Place: ₦100,000
Eligibility Criteria
To be part of this competition, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be an undergraduate student at any Nigerian tertiary institution (universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, or schools of nursing).
- Provide proof of current studentship.
- Sign the Asido Foundation’s “Unashamed pledge.”
Essay Guidelines:
Students are encouraged to craft thoughtful essays with a word count ranging from a minimum of 750 words to a maximum of 1500 words. When submitting entries, they should follow these steps:

- Attach a scanned copy of a recent passport photograph.
- Include evidence of current studentship.
- Upload a signed “Unashamed pledge.”

In recognition of their talent and dedication, the top 15 winners will receive certificates and be welcomed into the JAME 2024 Fellowship program.
