FUTO suspends upward review of students’ service charges/fees

As we all know, Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) pays one of the least students’ service charges of any university in the country. Therefore, early this year, we set up a Fee Review Committee that included all key stakeholders.

The FUTO committee submitted its proposed upward review of students’ service charges/fees increment template, which considered multiple factors but in particular, charges of sister institutions; and adjusted current receipts upward by 25% -36% for different programmes.

After due consideration of the following:

1. The state of the economy.
2. The state of FUTO.
3. Impact on OUR POOR and VULNERABLE STUDENTS and THIER FAMILIES.
4. Status of the Federal Government Student Loan Scheme.
5. The need to maintain peace and ensure we conclude our current session without disruption.

THE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT AND SENATE HAVE DECIDED NOT TO INCREASE FEES AT THIS TIME. We all therefore must make the necessary sacrifices these challenging times demand.
