The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) invites suitably qualified candidates for admission to the professional postgraduate programs offered by its Centre for Creative Writing for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
UNIABUJA Centre for Creative Writing, was founded March 2023 to foster and nurture creative writing talents in Nigeria and across Africa. This centre aims to gain recognition for its commitment to promoting literary excellence and advancing the arts of creative writing.

- Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Writing (PGD)
- Master’s Degree in Creative Writing (MA)
- Doctorate Degree in Creative Writing (PhD)
- Narrative Fiction Writing
- Non-Fiction Writing
- Creative Writing for Cinematic Dramaturgy
- Creative Writing and Nigerian Feminism
- Creative Writing Production etc.
- Professional Writing
- Video-Game Narrative
- Creative Writing in Film Studies

- Screen-Writing
General Admission Requirements
Academic requirements for admission into the Professional PGD and MA programs are:
- A BA or BSc degree from a recognized institution with a minimum of 3.0 GPA and 60% on research work in any of the following areas: English, Literature, Theatrical Arts, Linguistics, Journalism, Mass and Public Communication, History, Art History and Religious Studies.
- Philosophy and Education.
- Candidates with a social science degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) will also be considered as long as they submit a profile that shows some creative writing experience, in addition to the degree or certification and willingness to fulfil remedial coursework.
Academic requirements for admission into the PhD program:
- A Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing or a postgraduate degree in a relevant area from a recognised institution, with a minimum of 3.0 GPA and 60% on research work.
- There will be additional remedial coursework for students with a PGD.
Duration of Programs
- 8 months for Postgraduate Diploma
- 2 years for Master’s Degree
- 3–4 years for Doctorate Degree
