The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced an extension of the registration deadline for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates – Second Series.

  • PIN Generation Closes: October 17th, 2025
  • Registration Fee: ₦27,000

1. Overview

The WAEC GCE Second Series provides an opportunity for private candidates to obtain the Senior School Certificate. Registration is strictly online, and candidates must complete both biometric capture and online registration before the deadline.

This year marks an important transition for WAEC — the introduction of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the examination. Candidates are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the CBT environment before the exam.


2. How to Register

  1. Purchase Registration PIN:
    Pay the registration fee of ₦27,000 at any of the listed banks or accredited agents to obtain your Registration PIN and Information VCD.
  • Banks include Access Bank, Zenith Bank, GTBank, First Bank, UBA, Union Bank, Polaris Bank, Stanbic IBTC, and others.
  • An additional ₦500 bank commission applies.
  1. Alternative (Cashless) Payment Options:
    You can also generate your registration token using payment platforms such as Interswitch, Palmpay, Paga, SystemSpecs, CoralPay, Paycom, Broadshift Technologies, and others.
  2. Online Registration:
    Visit www.waeconline.org.ng to register.
    Complete your details carefully, including name, gender, subjects, passport photo, and biometrics.
    The approved fingerprint scanner is the UareU DigitalPersona device.
  3. Print Admission Notice:
    After registration, print your Admission Notice — it serves as your identification at the examination centre and contains your Result Checker PIN.

3. Special Information

  • Walk-in Candidates:
    Late registration is available for ₦45,000, not less than 24 hours before the scheduled paper.
  • Candidates with Special Needs:
    Candidates with impairments (e.g., visual, hearing, or speech difficulties) should indicate this clearly during registration.
  • Where to Register:
    Registration can be done at WAEC offices, accredited banks, cyber cafés, or authorized registration centres nationwide.

4. Examination Format

The 2025 WAEC GCE (2nd Series) will be conducted in a CBT-hybrid format:

  • Objective papers – fully computer-based.
  • Essay and practical tests – questions displayed on-screen, but answers written on paper.

An online mock examination will also be organized for interested candidates. Details will be communicated via SMS, email, and social media.


5. Important Guidelines

  • Registration fee is non-refundable.
  • Upload high-quality passport photographs (JPEG format, 275×314 pixels, 72dpi resolution).
  • Defaced or unclear photographs will invalidate your registration.
  • Check the WAEC website regularly for the official timetable.
  • Download and study the WAEC Regulations and Syllabuses using your registration PIN.
  • Candidates must appear for the exam in mufti (no uniforms) and without electronic devices.
  • Mobile phones and gadgets are strictly prohibited.
  • Engaging in examination malpractice will lead to result cancellation and possible prosecution.
  • Always provide valid email addresses and phone numbers for updates.
