FG Debunks False Claims on JAMB’s Role in Tertiary Admissions

The Federal Ministry of Education has addressed a false report currently circulating in some newspapers and online platforms, alleging that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The Ministry, through the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tuuji Alausa (CON), has firmly refuted this claim, describing it as misleading, baseless, and entirely untrue. According to the Minister, no such announcement was made or authorized by the Ministry, and the public should disregard this misinformation.

JAMB Remains the Sole Admission Authority – Ministry of Education

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that JAMB remains the only legally recognized body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

He emphasized that the current admission process through JAMB remains fully active and that there has been no change in policy or structure concerning tertiary admissions in the country.

“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for all tertiary admissions in Nigeria,”

Public Advised to Rely on Official Information Sources

The Ministry urged prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions to rely only on official communication channels of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for verified updates on admission policies and education-related matters.

The Ministry also dissociated itself from the false publication and warned that any information suggesting that JAMB has been scrapped should be completely ignored.

Commitment to Transparency and Merit-Based Admissions

Dr. Alausa reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with JAMB and other educational agencies to ensure that transparency, fairness, and merit continue to guide all admissions into higher institutions.

He stressed that the Ministry will continue protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s admission process, ensuring that due process is strictly followed across all levels.

Caution to Media and Online Platforms

The Ministry cautioned media houses, bloggers, and online publishers to always verify information from credible and official sources before releasing it to the public. Spreading false or unverified information, the statement warned, could cause unnecessary confusion within the education sector.

No Change to JAMB’s Role in Nigeria’s Admission Framework

In conclusion, the Ministry reaffirmed that there has been no modification to JAMB’s role in the admission process. JAMB remains central and indispensable to Nigeria’s tertiary education framework, and any claims suggesting otherwise are entirely false.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the official websites and social media handles of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate and up-to-date information on educational matters.
